Reid set to turn green
BRAGGING rights will once again be up for grabs when Warrnambool and Koroit footballers and netballers go head to head next week as they battle for the 2026 Cassign Cup.

The MDA perpetual trophy, which also helps to shine a light on muscular dystrophy and the MDA Warrnambool group, is presented annually to the club that wins the most netball and football matches when the two clubs meet during the Hampden League season.
Since its inception seven years ago, the cup has yet to be won by the Warrnambool Football Netball Club – with honours going to the Koroit Saints in 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
“The cup wasn’t held in 2020 and 2021 because of Covid interruptions to those seasons,” Gillin Boys Foundation founder Christopher Gillin said.
“It’s something both clubs really look forward to and it also helps to spread the word about muscular dystrophy and our association.”

As well as the scheduled round 12 matches, Christopher is hoping to see “plenty of green” at Reid Oval.
“All footballers and netballers will hopefully be wearing our traditional green laces on the day, and it’s anticipated the Warrnambool players will be wearing custom jumpers,” he said.
“Our foundation merchandise will also be available for purchase from both sides of the ground on game day and if anyone has some spare change there will be donation tins at the gate and at the merchandise tables.
“There will also be popcorn, fairy floss and slushies available to purchase to support the cause.”
