SDA recently contributed $10,000 towards the cost of the scoreboard through its Legacy Program, furthering its ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and promoting healthy lifestyles.

SDA’s regional operations manager (west) Grant Hutcheson said Purnim was an ideal location for support through Saputo’s Legacy Program, which had contributed to 12 regional projects since 2018.

“Located just north of Warrnambool, approximately 15 minutes from our Allansford dairy processing facility and in the heart of SDA’s milk supply region, Purnim Recreation Reserve is widely utilised for sport, recreation and local events by the surrounding community,” Mr Hutcheson said.

“We are delighted to contribute to Purnim’s new modern electronic scoreboard that integrates with laptops and can display images, movies, animations, live feeds and more.

“This initiative forms part of our ongoing commitment to improve sport and health facilities that deliver broader community benefits across SDA’s operating and milk supply regions.”

Speaking at the launch event for the new scoreboard, Purnim Recreation Reserve president Mick McKinnon said the reserve was run by passionate volunteers and he was thankful for the support from Saputo and other businesses to ensure the facility’s ongoing success.

“The new scoreboard will be used on game days and weeknight training sessions by sports clubs and local schools,” Mr McKinnon said.

“Trainings will be enhanced, with the new scoreboard able to demonstrate coaching tips and game simulations.

“Being transportable, it can be used at both reserve ovals and hired out for wider community needs.”

He added that Purnim Recreation Reserve had been around for 70 years and remained a valuable recreation hub to those in Purnim, Grassmere and the surrounding Moyne Shire district.

In south-west Victoria, other projects supported by SDA’s Legacy Program include the Cycling Without Age initiative; wayfinding signage along the Warrnambool foreshore promenade and Lake Pertobe, and a cricket training facility for the Allansford-Panmure Cricket Club.
