Big day out
THOUSANDS of locals and visitors headed to St John’s Primary School last weekend to enjoy Dennington’s Day Out.
The annual event once again drew large crowds on Sunday, with visitors young and young at heart enjoying a huge range of activities and entertainment.
According to event chairperson, Sarah Howley, crowds far exceeded the expected 3,000 – with people staying “for hours” to enjoy all that the event had on offer.
“We had an absolutely amazing day on Sunday, with perfect weather and a large number of people staying right until the end,” Ms Howley said.
“Usually people start heading home around 2.30pm but this year, with so much to see and do, people were there until the end.”
The rides were extremely popular, including the Super Scrambler (cha cha), chair swing, mini ferris wheel and several inflatables.
“The animal farm is always a hit and definitely didn’t disappoint this year,” Ms Howley said.
“The food trucks and school cake stall were all kept busy throughout the day and we had great support from many community groups and emergency services who came along and offered free kids activities.
“The cutting of a car by the SES gained a lot of interest and the Warrnambool Fire Brigade members who squirted water were also popular on a warm day.”
Visitors of all ages also braved the Haunted House while face painters were kept busy.
“Many people also took the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping at the pop-up shops which was terrific,” Ms Howley said.
“Overall everyone had a fantastic day and it was great to be able to provide both Dennington and the wider community with an amazing and super fun family day out.”
