A special day for rural mums
AN organised gathering of local, rural women has resulted in newly formed friendships, rekindled connections and a timely reminder that no-one is navigating life’s challenges alone.

Last month’s ‘Over the Farm Gate’ funded event, held at The Stables in Koroit, saw women enjoy a free wreath workshop before listening to guest speaker, Jessica Fishburn who addressed a wide range of topics including pelvic health.
“Some beautiful wreaths were made during the day and we had the chance to spend hours together discussing topics many of us had never been taught about at school,” participant and owner of Meadowbrooke Flower Farm, Brooke Stewart said.
“There were topics we often didn’t know who to ask about, and those that can feel uncomfortable or isolate; yet there we were, a group of women comfortable enough to laugh together, ask questions, share stories and support one another.

“Through creativity, conversation and shared experiences, barriers were lowered and a genuine sense of community was built. For me, that was the true success of the event. The wreaths were beautiful, but the connections formed, the conversations started, and the reminder that none of us are navigating life’s challenges alone were far more valuable.”
According to Brooke, the day was all about creating a welcoming space where rural mothers could step away from the demands of daily life, connect with others who understand their experiences, and to take a moment to focus on themselves.
“As rural women, and particularly as mothers, we are often the organisers, volunteers, carers and community builders who help keep rural life moving,” Brooke said.
“Yet it can be difficult to find the time and space to invest in our own wellbeing. By creating opportunities for women to gather, share stories, learn from one another and simply enjoy being present, we strengthen not only individuals but also the families, farms and communities they support.”
